A large spherical sculpture in the Mulva Cultural Center (Green Bay, Wisconsin), to be experienced in a walking tour around and near the piece. The Mulva commission necessitated coordination with building and site to establish a base for the foundations and assure optimal viewing positions.
Research:
the sphere is subdivided into panels by means of a consistent geometric rule so that the whole can be fabricated and assembled at large scale. We determined which subdivision would supply sufficient rigidity to the structure, panels of feasible size, and the desired exterior pattern. Calculations for loads and fixings were made with an eye to the eventual outdoor site. Materials and coatings were chosen for durability and for best display of the geometric pattern.
