SuperCube Elements, 2017

SuperCube Elements looks at the building blocks that form the geometric vocabulary of the SuperCube system, in particular the clusters ranging from interlocking pairs of two cubes to assemblies of multiple cubes.

At each scale, distinct configurations emerge. Pairs of two cubes establish the interlocking mechanism: tetrahedral indentations accommodate protruding elements. Triangular forms of three cubes create groupings with three-fold rotational symmetry. Four-cube blocks form the basis for periodic structures. Pentagonal arrangements are established by patterns of five cubes. Eight-cube clusters show how different groupings interconnect through shared central units.

Ring formations of ten cubes interlock independently, without requiring central clusters. As self-contained structural elements, these rings generate larger polyhedral forms. What geometric relationships govern assembly, and in what ways the base elements combine, are central questions. Each building block carries a set of constraints specific to the modular logic of the SuperCube system.
