The subtle installation consists of a periscopic arrangement of mirrors on the brick wall of Dansekapellet, rotating around the central axis of the courtyard and visible from both outside and inside. The installation dynamically adapts to daylight and offers a perspective that makes the courtyard's activities visible to the outside. The periscope connects interior and exterior sight lines: the courtyard is visible from outside, and the installation responds to daylight and activity. Part of the "Art in Architecture" program at Dansekapellet (Center for Dance and Performance), the work ties the courtyard to the street and the building's use.
Research:
Mirror angles and positions were calculated so that the periscope delivers a well-defined sight line from the courtyard to the outside (or the reverse) when the assembly is rotated. The rotation axis is aligned with the courtyard; the mirror configuration was optimized for the brick wall geometry and for the range of angles at which the installation is viewed. Lighting can be tied to time of day.
