Segments, 2026 – Jeewi Lee x Phillip C. Reiner

Two 2026 screen prints, Segment_Forgia-Vecchia_25-89 and Segment_Akwidaa_25-80, take a single grain's nano-CT scan and stop at one cross-section. Where the Fragments sculptures stack hundreds of DICOM sections to rebuild a grain in three dimensions, these prints keep it flat. One grain was collected on Stromboli, the other in Ghana. Each print is 109 by 85 centimetres, screen print and sand on Arches 88 paper, the scanned section shown at roughly a thousand times life size. The edition runs 2 x 3 + 2 AP.

Research:
The DICOM section is single-channel: attenuation stands in for mineral phase, dense regions bright, voids dark. Flattened to print scale, one slice holds the density gradients and voids that a 3D reconstruction would fold into surface geometry.
