Rhombic Structures, 2016

The Rhombic Structures research deals with spatial structures, built out of two different golden rhombohedra. The three-dimensional rhombic shapes are elementary elements in different polyhedral forms and different aperiodic structures in space. The relation of the two golden rhombohedra is related to the golden ratio and connected to the five-fold symmetry. Combinations of the rhombic shapes generate different geometric forms. One combination of rhombic shapes is the rhombic triacontahedron and other combinations of the shapes are polyhedral shapes. One can investigate the forms and how the identical elementary shapes create different spatial structures dependent of its orientation and the way they are combined. Another part of the research is the spatial aperiodic tiling in three dimensions. The three-dimensional aperiodic tiling is generated by combining the golden rhombohedra to fill a space without periodic recurrence. The created space-structures have a geometric organization but there is no periodic translational symmetry. This creates aperiodic structures. The way the elementary shapes are combined affects the type of spatial organizations and their geometry. The research is still in progress.
