Probability of conscious gravitation, 2023 – Studio Olafur Eliasson

An installation where the mathematical theory of probability is translated into the spatial arrangement by way of geometry.

Research:
The probability distribution for position was established in the installation as a research project. The location of geometric polyhedral elements was calculated by algorithms that followed from the probability distribution so as to create a spatial interpretation of the probability distribution. Phi and compound polyhedra were used as geometries in the installation (these are geometries used in the studio's other work). The research aim was to determine whether the installation's arrangement would communicate its underlying probability distribution structure through a spatial interpretation only.
