Deep Sea, 2017

The Deep Sea project studies the deformation under pressure of stellated polyhedrons. The deep ocean pressure is a 'concept' of structural limit testing. Different stellated polyhedrons are put through simulated collapse. Pointed star points and long faces fold and buckle in extreme force. Certain shape types deform with structural integrity while others collapse. Some types of polyhedrons are deformed in different ways as their symmetries are lost and their faces buckle. Simulations of mechanical deformation of polyhedrons under applied force. Different shapes are captured in transitional states as they become too unstable to exist in their given forms. This is an ongoing investigation.
