Bridges Conference Eindhoven, 2025

Research:
'Porouhedron #6' and 'Porouhedron #141' (from Porouhedra series) were selected to be juried into Bridges 2025 Exhibition of Mathematical Art, Craft and Design in Eindhoven. Up to 2 pieces by each artist are juried into Bridges and Reiner's two pieces were both selected. They are 3D printed in resin. Porouhedra are porous polyhedra: polyhedra are perforated until they turn into webs of walls and voids. Porouhedron #6 explores how much can you open a solid without breaking it apart. Porouhedron #141 (the 141 is a reminder of the amount of variants tried before it was found) is a denser lattice. Research
The thickness of the walls and void size are related, more porosity leads to weaker structure and thicker walls will close the network. The forms are searched algorithmically for structures that can be printed to the resolution limit. The Porouhedra were made in Grasshopper with Formlabs resin files in 2024.
