An installation of partially silvered glass spheres that produce multiple reflections and color emergence depending on viewer position. The spherical forms produce inverted and reduced self-images; the visual effect shifts with movement and position. Partially silvered surfaces split light between reflection and transmission, so the number and position of reflections depend on where the viewer stands. The work addresses temporal perception and attention through these shifting optical effects.
Research:
Sphere placement was calculated so that sight lines from typical viewing positions produce multiple reflections and overlapping reflections between spheres. Curvature and silvering (partial mirror coating) set the ratio of reflected to transmitted light and the number of internal reflections. The layout maintains structural stability while maximizing variation in optical effect across the installation space.
