Parabol Stars, 2018

Parabol Stars investigates the use of parabolic mirrors placed on the faces of polyhedra. Mirrors of different sizes are organized across various polyhedral forms with their focal points aligned, creating optical stellations.

Each parabolic mirror focuses light into cone shapes. When made visible through fog or other media, the light cones create an additional layer of stellation to the physical structure. The polyhedral geometry governs where mirrors are placed and how focal points are aligned, while the face geometry affects the resulting optical properties.

The structure assembles through the 3D node connector system, and tests how optical components can integrate with wireframe construction methods. Which polyhedra best accommodate arrangements of parabolic mirrors, and how the physical form relates to its light-based stellation counterpart, remains an ongoing question.
