Quanta Stars – Phillip C. Reiner, 2017

Three 3D printed structures with intricate patterns, possibly inspired by Buckminster Fuller's Quanta module system.

The Quanta Stars study extends Buckminster Fuller's Quanta module system beyond the T-Quanta module used in SuperCube research. The investigation explores other modular forms from Fuller's Synergetics, projecting these geometries into different symmetry groups to generate three-dimensional structures. The research applies polyhedral symmetry operations to Fuller's modular units, examining how basic geometric building blocks organize into star-like configurations. Each Quanta module type produces distinct forms when arranged through specific symmetry principles, revealing connections between modular geometry and symmetry operations. The study tests various Quanta modules and their behavior under different symmetry transformations. The resulting structures demonstrate how Fuller's theoretical framework adapts to practical spatial exploration, creating forms that bridge fundamental modular units with complex symmetric arrangements.
