La Congiuntura – Olafur Eliasson, 2017

"La Congiuntura" (Tempo Junction) transforms existing windows in Turin through geometric intervention. The work adapts SuperCube research-cubic modules with tetrahedral indentations based on golden ratio proportions. The periodic arrangement fills window openings through rotational transformations of four-cube blocks, creating structured patterns that filter light and fragment views. The modules interlock according to precise geometric rules, generating complex patterns from identical units. Each window receives a unique configuration while maintaining the underlying periodic logic. The intervention alters how occupants perceive interior/exterior relationships-views fragment through the tetrahedral voids, light filters through systematic gaps, spatial boundaries become ambiguous. The golden ratio proportions inherent in the module geometry create harmonic visual relationships.

Research: The SuperCube derives from the five-cube compound through tetrahedral subtraction, creating cubic modules with six indentations where edges divide according to golden ratio proportions. The periodic arrangement employs four-cube point-symmetric blocks as base units, extended through half-turn rotations around edge midpoints. This creates a periodic lattice that repeats at twice the cube edge length, with tetrahedral voids forming systematic gaps. For Turin's windows, the periodic system adapts to specific opening dimensions while maintaining the module's geometric logic. The interlocking mechanism-based on rotational transformations-allows various configurations within each window frame. The modules fabricate as individual units, then assemble on-site following the periodic arrangement principles. The resulting pattern creates a three-dimensional screen where the tetrahedral voids become apertures for light and view.
