Journey of Circumference, 2025 – Thilo Frank x Phillip C. Reiner

"Journey of Circumference" is a collaborative installation of eleven interconnected elements (0.8 to 4.4 meters in diameter) at Woodhub, Odense. The elements form thresholds for movement and encounter across the site. The cycle-change and return-is the conceptual basis; the layout draws on celestial mechanics and orbital geometry so that positions and spacings between elements follow a consistent geometric rule. As visitors move through and around the work, sight lines and alignments between elements shift. The work is experienced by moving rather than from a single viewpoint.

Research:
The eleven elements were positioned using a model derived from orbital geometry: relative distances and angles between elements follow the same proportional logic as a simplified planetary system. Element diameters (0.8-4.4 m) were assigned to produce a clear size gradient along the sequence. The layout was checked for visitor circulation, sight lines, and shadow patterns at different times of day. Materials (painted stainless steel, wood, lighting) were specified for outdoor use at Woodhub.
